Michael DupilleMichael Dupille

Seattle resident Michael Dupille has worked in art his entire career as both creator and educator.  Experienced in a variety of media including animation, illustration, print, and textile design. He continues to challenge himself through invention and innovation.

Michael was part of the glass blowing program at
Central Washington University in the early 70’s.  Since the late 1980's he has worked extensively with glass, having developed and refined a technique for 'painting with glass' that uses crushed glass (frit) in combination kiln fired methods. He refers to this process as
fritography

Michael pioneered many kiln forming processes, especially in the area of mould making and kiln casting.
He has done design work for Bullseye Glass, was a guest artist and instructor at Camp Colton, and his creative input is well featured in Boyce Lundstrom's books on art glass techniques. His work is highly collectable and his numerous public and private commissions include projects for the Washington and Oregon State Arts Commissions, The Everett Cultural Commission, The Seattle Times, The Pierce County Arts Commission, Amazon.com and the Seattle Mariners.

Beginning Fritography-

The painterly use of crushed glass frits and powders has opened up a whole new world of artistic imagery. Anything is possible when working with small particle of glass from tight, photo-realism to loose impressionism. Working in the panel format over 3 days, you will learn how to control colour density, shading, soft and hard edge lines and some unique specialty looks. This class will focus on the principles of multiple firing to create a rich, vibrant panel piece. There will be enough studio time to experiment with some technique pieces to assure a greater understanding of the process and how to create a palette. Just imagine how you can expand these techniques to creating unbelievable wall pieces, tiles and continuous murals. As one of the early kiln-working artists, Michael has pioneered this and many other glass working processes. His dynamite slide show will inspire as well as educate. He does request that only those with previous fusing experience take this class.

Advanced Fritography
-

3-Day Workshop In this course we briefly review the concepts and techniques of Beginning Fritography then dive feet first into all that frit can be.
We’ll focus on creating unusual shapes, cover mural making techniques and using different frit sizes for amazing effects with multiple firings.
Almost forgot to mention the dynamite slide show!
Michael has a personable, informative style of teaching and will gladly address issues and questions regarding the direction of your work.
Previous fusing experience required. Students need to bring their glass tool kits, a dust mask or respirator, notebook, some simple images to work from and a span of attention. (Just kidding)

Michael Dupille is running 3 classes at the festival.
