Wendy Witchner

When Wendy was 12-years-of age growing up in San Francisco she developed an interest in making and selling wire jewellery and did so for two years. 

It was not until many years later while living and working as a flight instructor in Alaska that she again began actively designing and making jewellery. Her work has evolved over the past 16 years and today she has three distinct lines of jewellery.

One is a light gauge wire line where she bends the wire freehand into various designs. The second is a coiled wire line, and the third is a mixed metal line. Her metal line is 'cold connected' by using wire for design and attachment purposes. Because of limitations living in a motor home she has decided to work with minimal tools. An eclectic mix of materials is incorporated into her designs with an emphasis on antique buttons from the late 1800's/early 1900's. She also works with glass buttons, pearls, raku, Bali silver, crystals and other unique materials. Many of her designs are labour intensive and she is known for her attention to detail, which is so evident in the beautiful pieces that she creates.

Learn to coil wire with a free standing cordless drill. After coiling the wire you will be incorporating  beads/buttons into the wire to form  various design shapes.

Most of the wire will be oxidized in liver of sulfer to create an antique finish. The students will learn to manipulate the wire freehand. Other than the kit minimal tools are required.  cordless drill (free standing), steel block, or anvil, chasing hammer (to flatten wire), round nose, chain nose and heavy
wire cutters...that's it!
